Dr Imogen Patterson

Dr Imogen Patterson is an patient-focused urological surgeon based at the Sydney Adventist Hospital in Sydney who is passionate about obtaining the best outcomes for her patients. Dr Patterson treats all aspects of general urology such as managing conditions like elevated PSA, haematuria (blood in the urine), kidney and ureteric stones, enlarged prostates, voiding dysfunction and cancer of the prostate, bladder, testes and kidney. She specialises in minimally invasive surgery and laser for kidney stones and benign prostate disease, and in laparoscopic and robotic surgery for both benign and malignant urologic conditions.

After completing her medical degree at the University of Queensland and following general surgical training, Dr Patterson underwent specialty training with the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand (USANZ). Dr Patterson completed a fellowship in Renal Transplantation at The John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle and has worked for many years offering surgical advice and practice across Queensland and New South Wales.  

In addition to caring for patients at Sydney Adventist Hospital in Wahroonga and The Friendly Society Private Hospital, Bundaberg, Dr Patterson is committed to improving patient outcomes across Australia, regardless of location. She regularly consults remotely, speaks, and travels to regional locations as a visiting specialist. 

Prior to her career in surgery Dr Patterson studied at the Australian Defence Force Academy and graduated from the Royal Military College Duntroon. Her experience has led to an interest in the wellbeing of current and former service personnel and remains front-of-mind when caring for veterans in her practice. 

Dr Patterson has numerous peer-reviewed publications in urological literatures and has presented at several international urology conferences. She continues to support research as an investigator and reviewer which enables her to contribute to, and stay across, the latest advancements in the field. 

As well known for positive patient experience as she is regarded for positive patient outcomes, Dr Patterson truly believes in a thorough, holistic approach to every person. Dr Patterson’s aim is to provide all her patients with compassionate, evidence-based and individualised treatment plans, and clear communication from the very first consultation.
